Wesley Heights

Washington D.C.

Surrounding every major metropolitan area in the country are tony streets that hold homes that are a 'little long in the tooth' and just need some ‘TLC’.

The Prout at Eastern Market

Washington, D.C.

Books on a Shelf. Sandwiched between other row houses just East of Capitol Hill in Washington DC sat two sad books (row houses) on a shelf, with other sad, worn-out books (row houses). The Monarch Team dusted them off and transformed them into national award-winning homes.

Seminary Hill

Alexandria, Virginia

Rooms With a View. Alexandria, Virginia is a city with a long history and amazing topography featuring hilltop vistas of the Potomac.

Linden Court

Washington D.C.

Just Around the Corner. Curiosity is one of the driving forces of the human experience. It caused mountains to be climbed, depths of the sea to be explored and a visionary to turn the corner and discover what was hidden on one of the fabled brick-paved alleys off historic H Street traveled by streetcars.

River Bend

Great Falls, Virginia

Over the River and Through the Woods. Currier and Ives must have looked down from engraving heaven and decided to create an idyllic setting for a family to live in.

Hill East

Washington, D.C.

From "what do we do with that?" to "How do you top that?" Monarch looked at the narrow, one-story side-by-side sort of sad little houses on Capitol Hill in the Nations’s Capitol and exclaimed “What do we do with that?”.

Lee’s Ridge

Warrenton, Virgina

360° Southern Comfort. The idea of Southern Comfort is a dream of a cool veranda on a hot Summer day. Warm friends that are easy to talk to, and a slow, easy view of horses and cattle grazing. An old Southern farm with a fishpond, long gravel road and a stand of ancient hardwoods completes the vista.

The Session at Capitol Hill

Washington, D.C.

Congress is in Session. On a hill where nothing gets done when Congress is in session, the MONARCH team gets it done with flair with The Session, a project on Capitol Hill in the Nation's Capital.

Edgemoor

Bethesda, Maryland

Good Bones. As the client walked the Monarch Team through her family's sprawling residence in Bethesda, the task seemed a little daunting. A warren of rooms broken up into smaller areas with dated architectural details that totally overwhelmed the spaces and made it difficult to see how it would be possible to unify the spaces into cohesive living spaces for a young active family.

Kings Court

Washington, D.C.

Jewel in the Rough. One of the unique features of urban living in D.C. are the alleys. They crisscross most of the blocks of the city. Historically they were used as ancillary less expensive housing as compared to the houses on the street. In the past 70 years they have become an almost forgotten segment of the city. Filled with garages and services building they were a source of urban blight. As housing prices soared those forgotten infill areas are now jewels in the rough waiting to be excavated, cleaned off and polished to let their true value shine.
